Video Gaming Dad Podcast Featured Guest Overview & Pre-Interview Questions

Thank you so much for your interest in the Video Gaming Dad podcast!

My goal is to have a fun conversation about the issues that all video gaming dads face.

Below is some information about the format. My plan is to release a new podcast each week and most likely, I’ll be recording episodes several weeks before they launch. In addition to the podcast, I will have corresponding blog posts with information/resources/topics covered during that podcast. Once your podcast episode has launched, I will send you details that you can share with your own social networks.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions at jay (-at-) videogamingdad (-dot-) com.

Basic Format:

Below is a basic idea of my planned format/framework for the show:

  • Pre-show conversation (5-10 minutes)
  • Introduction/Interview with Guest (15-20 minutes) – We’ll talk about you, your family and your experiences with video games (past and present).
  • Dad Talk (15-20 minutes) – We’ll talk about issues and situations that impact our lives as parents. Feel free to suggest your own topics to discuss.

My goal is to have the finished podcast be around 30-45 minutes in length. When we schedule the recording of your show, please block out 60 minutes and find a quiet location that’s free of distractions/sounds (if at all possible).

Technology:

I will be recording our session using Google Hangouts on Air. You will receive a link to join the Hangout no later than the day of the interview. You will need to have a Gmail account to participate. If you don’t have a Gmail account, it takes less than two minutes to set up at mail.google.com.

Ideally, you’d have a webcam and microphone available. The webcam isn’t critical but I plan to put the video interviews on the Video Gaming Dad YouTube channel (unless you request that I don’t). For a microphone/head phones, I’m using a Logitech H390 headset. You can get one from Amazon.com for $24.99. If you don’t have a headset and don’t want to buy one, you can use the Google Hangouts app on your smart phone. I’d just ask that you sit in a quiet place with a strong wireless Internet connection.

Pre-Interview Questions:

I don’t want to pre-script our conversation but I would like to get a little information about you so I can tailor my questions and topics to you. For example, if you have toddlers at home, it wouldn’t be relevant for me to talk about middle school.

Please take a few minutes and fill out the form below.

    Required Information

    Your Name

    Your Email Address

Your Cell Phone Number (in case I need to contact you)

    1) Tell me a little bit about your family (wife, kids, pets, etc.). How many kids and what ages? (I'm asking about ages so I can pick relevant topics). It's up to you if you want to share their names. I'd also like to hear about what you do for a living and any hobbies you might have. I'm going to use this information to introduce you my listeners. I will most likely introduce you and then ask you to expand on my intro and talk about your family and history with video games.

    2) What kind of video games (PC, console, arcade, handheld, etc.) do you prefer? What are you playing right now? What about your kids?

    3) Are there any topics or real-life situations you would like to talk about during the show? This could be something that you're dealing with at home with the kids or a current event that's going on (something that read about online). My goal is to discuss between 3-5 topics during a "Dad Talk" segment.

    4) Is there a particular night that you'd prefer for me to schedule our podcast session? I typically schedule sessions around 9:00 PM EST during the work week (after my kids are in bed). I use Google Hangouts to record the session so you can participate from the comfort of your own home.

    5) If you would like, I'd be happy to promote your personal/business website/blog or social media profiles (ex. Twitter) that you might have so that listeners can contact you. If not, just put "no thanks" below.

    Photos

Once the interview has been recorded, I'd like to get some pictures of you and your family that I can use along with the accompanying blog post on VideoGamingDad.com. Please send a separate email to jay [-at-] videogamingdad [-dot-] com with 2 to 3 photos. They can be of you with your kid(s), wife, family, esc. The best photos are in landscape view (sideways). The photos need to be at least 1,000 pixels wide. Most cameras take photos at least this size by default.

Once you submit this form, I will reply with a confirmation email. I will send you a separate email with details about the technical aspects of recording our podcast session.
